Information Automation Limited is an information research, consultancy and training company located in Mid-Wales and formed early in 1987. The original intention was to focus on consultancy, but over the years research and training have become the primary activities, and only a relatively small amount of consultancy work is now undertaken. Institutions that have consulted us include the BBC, an Indonesian information centre, and a Diocesan Board of Finance.

IAL is based outside Aberystwyth in mid-Wales and has close links with the Department of Information Studies of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Many of our research project are undertaken jointly with the Department.

The Directors and senior research officer have extensive experience of the electronic publishing industry, the Internet and World Wide Web resources, CD-ROM and online databases, and of collection management. Particular interests center on electronic scholarly publishing, e-books, the quality and evaluation of electronic resources, and extending collection development policies to include electronic resources. Both Directors have extensive speaking experience and both lecture and run training courses regularly.
